JAGAD

'Jagad' means Universe in Javanese and Sanskrit. The work delves into 4 concepts from the Quran – being the pursuit of success, pleasure, piousness and humility as forces that shape our internal and external universe. These 4 cravings become embodied in the physical form of Rianto.

This is an excerpt from a 20 minute experimental short film. Shot at Parangtritis Beach in Jogjakarta and the old royal palace of the Solo court, Pesanggrahan Langenharjo, the film is a conceptual springboard from which I am developing a multiform performance work for Arts House involving dancers from Indonesia and Australia and live video technology for presentation in 2021.
